Peter Valera plays the saxophone from his heart and soul. He “makes the horn speak”…communicating a wide range of musical emotions and experiences. Peter gives his all for performances that are unforgettable. As a composer, bandleader, and educator; his unique style is a synthesis of the swingin’ sounds of early jazz and the soulful grooves of rhythm and blues.

When he first heard the saxophone in elementary school, Peter knew that music was his calling. Throughout his life, he learned to appreciate all types of music. He has learned to express his passion through Jazz, Classical, Latin Jazz, Funk, Soul, Pop, R&B and Blues to name a few. No matter what genre of music he plays, he brings his audience on a musical journey with him.

His philosophy is that music is lifelong journey and it is not about where you end up, but how and why you got there. Because Peter composes music from his life experiences, he is able to blend artistic and commercial aspects of song writing into engaging compositions.

He is currently working with the legendary Seleno Clarke and his Harlem Groove Band. You can see them perform every Sunday at the American Legion Post 398 in Harlem.  He has had the opportunity to make music with Nathan Lucas, Max Lucas, Melvin Sparks, Jesse Hameen II, David Lee Jones, Fred McFarlane, Annette St. John, Reuben Wilson, Sweet Georgia Brown, Mel Davis, Michael Torsone, Michael Howell, Wayne Henderson, and Bill Easley to name a few.

Peter’s passion for music is undeniable. He gets the audience jumpin’, shoutin’ and dancin' in the streets. When you come to one of his shows, you will leave with a smile on your face!
